Join six to eight other teens and young adults age 18-24 on an extended wilderness camping adventure in Washington's beautiful North Cascades Mountains. This is a leadership training program. You will gain work skills, employment references and upon completion receive a $300 education stipend. PLUS, you become eligible for work with Urban Wilderness and to receive additional training! Earn 60 service-learning hours required for graduation from high school. Already earned your service-learning hours? Then think ahead to standing out for college, scholarships, or employment by doing more than just what it takes to get by!
The trip includes 12 days of trail work, backpacking, day hiking and arts workshop. Your adventure culminates with a public performance/celebration of the poems, stories and visual arts that you create in the backcountry arts workshop back in Seattle!
Spend 17 amazing nights working, playing, eating, and sleeping in the beauty of the North Cascade Mountains at Ross Lake. The Wilderness WORKS team will do a variety of work along Ross Lake. We also learn the importance of trail work as we repair tread damage, build switchbacks and cut back of encroaching vegetation. Camping in tents, sleeping in sleeping bags, cooking outside, carrying all you need, making new friends, and learning to see life from a different point of view!
WE HAVE THE GEAR YOU NEED! We supply the food, tents, backpacks and clothing!
