Dr. Terry Hill is a retired professor of music and orchestra conductor at Utah Valley University, and was assistant conductor and recording director of the Mormon Symphony which is now the Orchestra at Temple Square. He was musical director and conductor of the Utah Valley Youth Symphonies and Civic Orchestra. Terry is a native of Provo, and a student of Lawrence Sardoni (student of Nicolai Malko and Thor Johnson) Leonard Pearlman (student of Han Rosbaud) and the John G. Hilgendorff. At age 14 Dr. Hill joined the Utah Valley Symphony, and Utah Valley Opera Association Orchestras and became a member of the musicians union. Professor Hill is a popular guest conductor and clinician throughout the Western States. Hill earned his bachelor and master degrees in music education from Brigham Young University where he was honored as the outstanding music education major and elected to Pi Kappa Lambda. He received his doctorate from the University of Arizona, Tucson, majoring in instrumental conducting while filling a conducting assistantship with the university orchestra and opera workshop. Dr. Hill has served as assistant conductor of the Salt Lake Chamber Orchestra, as adjunct faculty at Weber State, and as conductor of the ASTA National String Workshop at Snowbird. In addition, Mr. Hill taught in the public schools for twenty-five years at both the secondary and elementary levels, specializing in string instruction, general music, and orchestral conducting. He has also conducted orchestras and taught at BYU, Snow College, BYU Idaho, Southern Utah University and the University of Utah. Terry's orchestras have performed at National MENC and UMEA conventions, and he has organized and hosted several conference sessions and all-state orchestras. As conductor of the Utah Valley Youth Symphonies Terry lead the group in growth from one small orchestra to several groups, which traveled to London, Hawaii, Spain, Portugal, Austria, and Switzerland under his direction. Mr. Hill's talents have also afforded him conducting opportunities in the Hollywood Bowl and Carnegie Hall.
