Retail - Scotch Brand Product of the Year
 
The Scotch Brand Product of the Year Award recognises businesses in Scotland which are leading the way in retailing top quality Scotch Beef PGI, Scotch Lamb PGI or Specially Selected Pork products.

Qualifying Businesses
The Award is open to Scottish retailers and other companies which sell Scotch Beef PGI, Scotch Lamb PGI or Specially Selected Pork products.

Products can range from roasts, steaks and products which have a 100% meat content to products which use Scotch Beef PGI, Scotch Lamb PGI or Specially Selected Pork as ingredients. Please note, products using Scotch Beef PGI, Scotch Beef PGI and Specially Selected Pork as an ingredient must contain a minimum meat content of 25%.

Products may be new to market or well established but must have been on sale in the market since January 2017 or before. ANY PRODUCT OR BUSINESS THAT WON A SPECIFIC CATEGORY IN 2016 IS NOT ELIGIBLE TO ENTER THAT SAME CATEGORY AGAIN IN 2017. Products will not be accepted unless whole chain assurance can be demonstrated.

Judging Panels
The judging panel is made up of experienced figures from relevant sectors of the food and drink industry. Judges are independent of both Scotland Food & Drink, RHASS and Quality Meat Scotland. The decisions of the judging panel will be final.

Judging Criteria
Judges are looking for informative and well planned answers. Entrants are solely responsible for the accuracy of the information they supply. Neither organisers nor judges will have capacity to carry out additional research; therefore all entrants should ensure that all questions asked are answered.

All retail and foodservice category entrants will be asked to submit a specified quantity of product for tasting by judges on the 29th and 30th March 2017. This includes one product for preparation and tasting and one for examination in its original (packaged) state. Detailed instructions advising mailing arrangements will follow nearer the time. A suitably qualified person appointed by the awards’ organisers will prepare the products. This judging will be conducted in a private session with only the judges and organisers present.

Please note that one entry should be made for each product. Only the product detailed on the application form will be judged at the awards tasting and care must therefore be taken to submit only that product which has been entered. There is no limit on the number of applications companies can make, but only one product can be entered per entry.

Entries will be allocated points for their applications, weighted as follows:

Tasting session – 80% (including taste and product examination)
Application form – 20%

All entries for each category will be narrowed down to a shortlist of three. This shortlist will be published at the start of April and all entrants notified as to their shortlisting or otherwise. A senior representative of each shortlisted company is expected to attend the awards ceremony and dinner at the EICC in Edinburgh on Thursday 18th May 2017. The attendance of finalists is a condition of entry. Two tickets are made available to shortlisted companies at the time finalists are notified, these are offered at the discounted finalists rate of £95+VAT per ticket (max. 2 tickets per company at this price).

No publication of category winners is made prior to the ceremony. For publicity purposes it is assumed that winners agree to product and company details being forwarded to our PR team. Winners will receive a Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Award and use of the awards branding.

All entrants will receive written feedback reports which include the comments and opinions of the judges. Entrants whose products are not shortlisted will receive their feedback first, while entrants whose products are shortlisted will receive feedback after the awards ceremony.
