Thank you for your interest in applying for a scholarship through Saint Matthew Foundation Committee. These scholarships are students who are graduating high school seniors who will continuing their education through a university, college, or vocational program in the fall of 2024 To be considered students must have been affiliated with Saint Matthew Lutheran Church and must fully complete the application and have references submitted.

The Application Deadline, including the letters of recommendation, is April 19th 2024, 6:00 PM. No late or incomplete applications will be accepted. It is the responsibility of the applicant to be sure two letters of recommendations have been received.

Please complete the following application along with naming two references as described on the application.  The application is to be submitted online and two letters submitted via email to scholarships@saintmatthew.org The letters of recommendation must be submitted by the deadline of April 19th, 2024, 6:00PM.

Scholarship recipients will be notified prior to the announcement to the congregation, no later than June 7th, 2024.  Awards will be presented at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church on June 16th at the 9:30 service. A check will be sent directly to the institution designated on your Scholarship Application Form, and the funds will be distributed in accordance with that institution’s policies.

We may decide to publish information about our Scholarship recipients. Please write a short story about yourself, one that you would be willing to see published, including the following content - 500 word maximum

  • Start with the name by which you are best known (vs. your formal name).
  • Describe yourself at this point in your life: the attributes that you possess, the hobbies that you enjoy, and your interests outside of school and church.
  • Why are you interested in this scholarship and how it may help you.

Note: Scholarship recipients will be asked to provide a current portrait-type photo.

References and Endorsements

Along with this application, please submit two Letters of Recommendation, one from each of the following categories:   

  • A member of the staff or adult mentor/leader with whom you have served at Saint Matthew or in your current church home.
  • A  teacher, counselor, or employer (not your parent or other family member)

Letters of Recommendation (300 word maximum per letter) should be emailed to scholarships@saintmatthew.org no later than April 19, 2024 by 6:00PM (Pacific Time).

Please provide the first and last names plus phone number and email addresses for two references. It is the applicant's responsibility to follow up and make sure reference letters have been received by the scholarship committee. Applicants who do not have two letters of reference submitted by April 19th, 2024 6:00 PM (Pacific Time) will not be considered for the scholarship.
