Thank you for your interest in applying for a Saint Matthew Scholarship that will be awarded for the 2019-2020  academic year. These scholarships are intended to support students who will be attending a community college, vocational education, or pursuing a four year college education in the Fall of 2019, and who has attended Saint Matthew Lutheran church and is continuing their faith journey. 

The Application Deadline is April 28th, 2019. No late applications will be accepted.

Please complete the following application along with naming two references as described on the application.  The application is to be submitted online while the references will be contacted by phone or via email to 

Scholarship recipients will be notified prior to the presentation during Worship June 9th, 2019.  A check will be sent directly to the institution designated on your Scholarship Application Form, and the funds will be distributed in accordance with that institution’s policies.

  • An experience where you felt spiritually challenged, or grew spiritually, and how you dealt with it at that time.

Tell us about you - your story

We may decide to publish information about our Scholarship recipients. Please write a short story about yourself, one that you would be willing to see published, including the following content - 500 word maximum

  • Start with the name by which you are best known (vs. your formal name).
  • Describe yourself at this point in your life: the attributes that you possess, the hobbies that you enjoy, and your interests outside of school and church.
  • Why are you interestd in this scholarship; for example: highlight the course of study that you plan to pursue or your chosen major; summarize your dream career.

Note: Scholarship recipients will be asked to provide a current portrait-type photo.

References and Endorsements

Along with this application, please submit two References or Letters of Recommendation, one from each of the following categories:   

  • A member of the staff or adult mentor/leader with whom you have served at Saint Matthew or in your current church home.
  • A teacher, counselor, employer or family friend (not your parent or other family member)

Letters of Recommendation (300 word maximum per letter) should be emailed to no later than April 28th, 2019.

If you prefer, provide the first and last names plus phone number and email addresses for two references and the Scholarship Committee will contact these individuals to endorse your application. Please ask permission from your references and notify them that they may be contacted if they are willing to provide contact information for you.

Remember, you must submit your online application and recommendations by April 28th, 2019.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this application.  The applicants receiving the  Saint Matthew Foundation will be notified mid May.
