Saint Matthew Foundation 2017-2018 Barrett Scholarship Application

Application Instructions

Thank you for your interest in applying for a Saint Matthew Foundation Barrett Scholarship that will be awarded for the 2017-2018 academic year. These scholarships are intended to support college students who have completed at least their Sophomore year in either a two-year or four-year college. This scholarship will be for a student who will be classified as at least a Junior by the beginning of the fall term in 2017, who has attended Saint Matthew Lutheran church and is continuing their faith journey. 

The Application Deadline is Friday, June 30, 2017. No late applications will be accepted.

Please complete the following application along with two letters of recommendation as described on the application.  The application is to be submitted online while the two letters of recommendation are to be submitted via email to scholarships@saintmatthew.org.

Scholarship recipients will be notified prior to the presentation during Worship in August.  A check will be sent directly to the institution designated on your Scholarship Application Form, and the funds will be distributed in accordance with that institution’s policies.

We may decide to publish information about our Scholarship recipients. Please write a short story about yourself, one that you would be willing to see published, including the following content - 500 word maximum

  • Start with the name by which you are best known (vs. your formal name).
  • Describe yourself at this point in your life: the attributes that you possess, the hobbies that you enjoy, and your interests outside of school and church.
  • Why are you interestd in this scholarship; for example: highlight the course of study that you plan to pursue or your chosen major; summarize your dream career.

Note: Scholarship recipients will be asked to provide a current portrait-type photo.

Letters of Recommendation

Along with this application, please submit two Letters of Recommendation, one from each of the following categories -  300 word maximum per letter

  • A member of the staff or adult mentor/leader with whom you have served at Saint Matthew or in your current church home.
  • A teacher, counselor, employer or family friend (not your parent or other family member)

Letters of Recommendation should be emailed to scholarships@saintmatthew.org no later than Sunday, July  7, 2017.

Remember, you must submit your online application by June 30 AND your Letters of Recommendation by July 7.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this application.  The applicants receiving the  Saint Matthew Foundation Barrett Scholarship will be notified in August, 2017.
