Next Steps small and large group fall 2017 offerings at Saint Matthew:
Choice 1 - The Art of Neighboring: September 17th through November 5th, Sunday mornings from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Green Classroom. Join a new small group (including a six-week interactive study) that is focused on The Art of Neighboring: Building Genuine Relationships Right Outside Your Door. Leader: Marti Maple
Choice 2 - Bibles & Brew: September 20th through October 25th, Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. Get to know other fellow Saint Matthew guys in a low-key, casual atmosphere. In this new Next Steps group offering, attendees can talk about their lives and the Bible, while sipping on craft beer or your favorite non-alcoholic beverage. Leader: Phil Gomez
Choice 3 - Dine with Nine: September 24th through October 15th, Sunday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Enjoy a casual, potluck dinner with other adults at various homes within our community. Closed due to the high response, but you can be added to the waiting list. Leaders: Lynne and Andy Smith
Choice 4 - God, Grace, & Girlfriends: Saturday, September 30th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at a nearby home. Enjoy a relaxing gathering with other Saint Matthew girlfriends! This is a new Next Steps group. Leaders: Juliana Basil and Tami Gomez
Choice 5 - Golf & Grow—The Nineteenth Hole: Friday at noon once a month starting in October at Diablo Hills Golf Course and The Greenery in Walnut Creek. Join your fellow Saint Matthew men for casual golf outings for men of all levels. This is a new Next Steps offering. Leader: Andy Smith
Choice 6 - Walk "n" Talk: The 1st and 3rd Saturday mornings of the month, 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Get to know your fellow Saint Matthew adults (and others in our community). Join us in a casual walk around our beautiful surrounding neighborhood. All levels of walkers are invited to participate in this new Next Steps group offering. Leaders: Marty Campbell and Jenny Hammond
Choice 7: Band of Brothers: Join a bunch of brothers for adventurous outings (including the Men's Oktoberfest Poker Night on Friday, October 13th) and events throughout the year. Leaders: Tom Aragon and Scott Gallagher
Choice 8: Divorce Support & Healing: September 12th through December 5th, Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Blue Classroom. Choose healing after divorce with meaningful discussions with other women in a safe, comforting environment. This is a new Next Steps group offering. Leaders: Beth Bremer and Deborah Harris
Choice 9: Financial Peace University: September 14th through November 9th, Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Choice 10: The Gift of Forgiveness: October 5th through November 15th, Wednesday evenings, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Saint Matthew. This is a new group offering based upon the principles of the Forgiveness Ministries designed to help you unwrap, discover and experience all aspects of authentic forgiveness. Join the group in an in-depth 7-week study (includes a $25 workbook fee). Leader: Cathy Fuller
Choice 11: GriefShare: September 12th through December 5th, Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Gardenside Room. This program is designed to help those that have had a recent loss of a loved one using expert videos and meaningful discussions (includes a $15 workbook fee). Leaders: Linda Cole and Erick Onishi
Choice 12: Wine, Women & the Word: September 13th through December 13th, Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at a home. Come join a small group of great ladies experiencing the joy of mid-life. Over the year are four studies and one summer event. Leader: Renate Schoenberg
Choice 13 - Black Bear Diner Group: Wednesday mornings, 7:00 to approximately 8:30 a.m. at Black Bear Diner in Walnut Creek. Come have breakfast while studying scripture and getting to know other Saint Matthew men. Leader: Duane Ludwig
Choice 14 - Deeper Devotion: September 10th through November 19th, Sunday mornings from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. in the Gardenside Room. Live a joyful journey in partnership with the Holy Spirit by studying "Living into Pentecost." In honor of Greg Russell
Choice 15 - Early Risers: Wednesday mornings, 7:00 to 8:30 a.m. in the Gardenside Room. Continuing study where members read God's Word with each other and ask His direction and guidance to glean what He wants us to know. Leader: Gwen Ross
Choice 16 - Gather Group: On the third Tuesday of the month, mid-day, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Gardenside Room and/or homes near Saint Matthew. A women's group that discusses the "Gather" a mixture of articles, theological reflections, devotions and stories of comfort and challenge that help you to grow in faith and engage in ministry and action. Leader: Phyllis Arthur
Choice 17 - Learning to Pray the Scriptures: Learning the practice of Lectio Divina, "Praying the Scriptures." There are currently three Lectio groups at Saint Matthew. If you would like to start a new group, please contact Andy Smith.
Choice 18 - Hubcaps Group: Friday mornings, 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. at the Buttercup Pantry in Walnut Creek. This men's group is sharing their faith journey, a weekly reading from various authors, prayer concerns, and service events. Leader: Jerry Hanson
Choice 19 - Piecemakers Quilters Group: Thursday afternoons from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. in the Gardenside Room. Join others for a small, casual group gathering for quilters of all levels. You may work on your own project, or help to make quilts and receiving blankets for the Layette Ministry program. Leader: Sharon Mazanec
Choice 20 - Ten Thousand Reasons Group: Saturday mornings, 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. in the Teen Center. This is a continuous "not so small, small group" that gathers to share and discuss a variety of topics for men and coordinate several service opportunities. Come for a light breakfast and great discussion. Leaders: Scott Gallagher and Mark Hearn
Choice 21 - Tuesday Service Group: Tuesday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 a. m. in the Saint Matthew Red Classroom. This women's service group provides a meal to YEAH (a year-round young adult shelter) once a month, and also supports the Layette Ministry church-wide program. Leader: Barbara Groenveld
Choice 22 - Priscilla Circle: On the second Friday of each month from 9:30 a.m. to noon in nearby homes. Join this long standing women's group that is studying Max Lucado's Chronicles of the Cross. Leader: Barbara Crews

Mission Beyond Saint Matthew
: There are also dozens of opportunities for serving beyond the boundaries of our community of faith. Serving the local community, the region, and the world is a significant part of the DNA of Saint Matthew.
Connect with others by serving in local and global ministries focused on Children in Crisis, Relational Evangelism, Poverty and Homelessness, and Disaster Relief.
