Parking Lot Guards (4): These volunteers guard the various entrances into All Soul’s parking lot instructing participants that there is no Redbud parking in the paved lot due to the bike finish and directing them to park in the lot north of the church, the Waterford’s upper or lower decks or Penn Square Mall.

Children's Fitness Run

Each year the Children's Fitness Run works in conjunction with the Redbud beneficiary to coordinate a children's activity. This activity should be fun, easy and related in some way to the function of the beneficiary. Volunteer responsibilities and numbers vary depending on selected activity. Volunteers should be provided by the beneficiary and assist with the activity.

COURSE MARSHALS

Course marshal volunteers are positioned at various locations along the route to point participants in the correct direction of the course. It is very important that all course marshals stay in position until the last cyclist (who will be followed by the sweep truck) passes. Please give encouragement and congratulations to each cyclist as you direct them along the course. Also, please note the times of the first and last cyclist who passes each location. This will allow for more accurate scheduling of future volunteers. All course marshals should go directly to assigned location on the morning of the event. Course marshals are to pull out any “Caution Bicycle Event” signage & barricades off the side of the road prior to the event and remove from the road after the sweep truck passes.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
All course marshals may be asked to attend a meeting approximately one week prior to the Redbud. At this meeting, volunteers will be given specific instructions regarding where to stand on course, where to park their car off course, how to direct runners etc. This meeting will be scheduled at a convenient time for the volunteers (after work or on a weekend) and will last approximately 45 minutes.

Duties:
As strollers arrive, volunteers assist keeping the strollers behind the runners. As the crowd grows, volunteers are to separate baby-strollers from walkers and runners by encouraging them to get at the back of the line. A costume character will be entertaining the children as volunteers determine the winner of the stroller decorating contest.

START LINE DIVIDERS

Waterford Starting Line, just south of 63rd & Pennsylvania at entrance of Waterford Plaza
Instructions:
Volunteers will hold orange netting/or other device to divide the 10k and 5k race participants. 10k and 5k dividers will line up from entrance to Waterford to Rose Hill Cemetery from north to south. Board members will instruct volunteers where to stand. Purpose is to keep runners from crossing over the to the other race lane. Volunteers must also guard the curb sides of the start-line pads to assure that no participants cross the start-line via the grassy sides of the street which would keep them from traveling directly over a chip pad. 10k participants line up on the west side of Penn. 5k participants line up on the east side of Penn. All 2 mile participants should line up behind the 10k & 5k participants.

START LINE PACE SIGNS

TRAFFIC EQUIPMENT SETUP

meet OKC Police Officer at 11:30 – 11:45 in the Plastic Surgery Center parking lot on the southwest corner of 63rd Street and Pennsylvania Avenue to place cones blocking the parking lot entrances and exits. Volunteers then drive south on Pennsylvania Avenue and Barnes Avenue with the OKC police officer to place barricades & cones in the locations on the map. Midstate Traffic should have already dropped all cones and barricades on the adjacent street corners.Once the team has finished placing all the equipment along Pennsylvania Avenue, they go to 63rd Street and Villa Avenue to help OKC Police place cones and barricades at approximately 1pm. Finally, the team drives east along 63rd Street to place the final barricades at the side streets entrances marked on the map.

TRAFFIC CONTROL – FINISH LINE

Information:
meet at the Nichols Hills City Hall at the start of their shift and will receive instructions, vests and maps. Volunteers will work primarily with Chief Richard Mask and Lt. Funderburk to block off the Nichols Hills Plaza parking area at the 63rd Street entrance and the two Western Avenue entrances at 9am. Volunteers are stationed at the Plaza entrances to control access and move the barricades for Redbud officials that have appropriate stickers on their vehicles. Second shift volunteers move to the finish line around 1:30 pm to push people through the finish area and minimize crowd congestion for incoming runners. Volunteers may also be asked to stand on the course as directed by Police Department.
