The Jefferson County Public Schools Conduct Code has been prepared to provide you with information relating to your rights and responsibilities. In order for our policies and procedures to have the greatest possible positive effect, we need your cooperation.

This year the Conduct Code is being distributed electronically only and can be accessed at http://www.jeffcopublicschools.org/schools/code_of_conduct.  This link to the Conduct Code link can also be found on the JA website. It is your, and/or your student’s, responsibility to become familiar with the contents of the Conduct Code. If you do not have access to the internet at home you can access the Conduct Code at school by contacting the main office. The school has created the following options at school to access the Conduct Code and can assist you.

The following options to access the Conduct Code at school are available:

  • obtaining a copy of the Code of Conduct
  • referring to the binder in the office, or
  • accessing the district website on the laptop in the office area

The school will also do instruction and training with your student concerning the Conduct Code to ensure that students are aware of the contents of the Conduct Code and understand their rights and responsibilities. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. O’Neill 303-438-1011.

I understand that that the JA Parent/Student Handbook is available online at www.jajags.com.  I have internet capability and will access this document. Parent/Guardian Responsibilities

Please initial the “’Parent/Guardian Responsibilities” items below
I agree to read and abide by the current Jefferson County School District R-1 Code of
Conduct Handbook. (Refer to this handbook online at www.jeffcopublicschools.org)
I understand the Jefferson County School District’s truancy policy:

     • Four (4) unexcused absences in a month or ten (10) in a year is considered "habitually
       truant."
     • Four (4) unexcused late arrivals in a semester are considered "excessive tardiness."
I will support the school and teachers per the JA Parent Code of Conduct and Parent/Student
Grievance Process – by dealing with differences of opinion appropriately, respectfully
interacting with others, and understanding that the teachers are responsible for the class and
the parents’ role is to support the teachers and/or Principal publicly and privately.
I agree to read and abide by the Attendance & Absences Policies in the JA Family Handbook.
I will demonstrate my commitment to Jefferson Academy by:

     1. Ensuring that my child regularly attends school and will be on time and prepared to
work (including attendance for the October funding count timeframe and state mandated
testing days); if my child must be absent, I will follow handbook procedures for notifying
         the school.

     2. Making sure my child has a quiet place to study at home, monitoring all homework
assignments for completion and accuracy (Detailed expectations for homework will be
given by each teacher), and supervising my child's daily recommended reading. (Based
         on Grade Level Requirements).

     3. Ensuring that my child has proper hygiene, nutrition and rest.

     4. Ensuring that my child is dressed properly in adherence to the JA dress code.

child's teacher(s) to monitor progress and to address questions and concerns.

     6. Reading and returning on time, as requested, all informational materials sent by the
school in order to ensure good communication.

     7. Actively participating in Jefferson Academy by:

         a. Attending at least one Board of Directors’ meeting per school year.
         b. Attending at least one School or PTO/Boosters sponsored event (other than
Back-to-School Night or Parent Teacher Conferences) per school year.
         c. Volunteering a minimum of 20 hours per family at the school or at home.
I agree to support the “No Rescue” policy in order to foster the independence of our students.
I agree to pay any fees or other financial obligations in a timely manner or work out the
appropriate arrangements to do so.

#6 Communication

Our teachers will be posting their weekly or monthly communications to families on their websites. The weekly office notes will also be posted on the school website, elementary. jajags.com. In the past, we have made copies for each family and sent them home weekly. By posting these online, we will eliminate the time and cost of copies (approximately 1,500 copies weekly), and save on paper. However, we understand posting these documents online may not work for all our families.

By signing below, I understand that it is my responsibility to go online weekly to the teacher and school websites for the classroom and office communication documents. Should I need to receive hard copies of these documents, I will go into the office and complete a request form to have these sent home in my child’s folder.

#7 PTO

I understand how PTO supports the school and understand my option to pay my membership dues.

For PTO membership, click HERE

#8 Driveline App for pickup

This year both JA campuses will be utilizing a specialized online dismissal app to streamline the dismissal process.  Every household will be assigned a unique ID specific to each campus for each individual student in the household.  Specific instructions and the household ID will be sent to families prior to the start of  in person (hybrid) learning.

Please provide the same email for all members of the household on each student's registration.

#9 Acknowledgement of Supervision Schedule

The school day is from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Students may begin arriving at 7:45 a.m. and go directly to their classroom. Students cannot be dropped off before 7:45 a.m. During after school pick up, students will remain in their classroom and will be dismissed using the Drive Line process. Students not picked up by 3:25 p.m. will be taken to the commons area (next to the office) and supervised by a staff member from our Jag Care. Parents/guardians will be contacted at that time.

I have read and will comply with the above policy.
