Don't Lie

Ex. 20:16You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

Types of Lies

White Lie - a lie that doesn’t count as a lie

Prov. 6:16There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: 17haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.

When I lie…

Col. 3:5Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. 7You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

Jn. 8:44...He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Eph. 4:22You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. 25Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body.

Rev. 21:6He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. 8But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur.”

When I Tell the Truth...

My conscience is clear.

Unity is built on trust.  Trust is established by truth.

Speaking Truth:

Eph. 4:15…Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.

Prov 27:5It is better to correct someone openly than to have love and not show it.  6The slap of a friend can be trusted to help you, but the kisses of an enemy are nothing but lies.

1 Cor. 13:6Love rejoices in the truth.
