CMA Film and Audio Festival Entry Form

The College Media Association Film and Audio Festival is designed to encourage and promote excellence in student video work by showing examples of top-notch projects in several categories. Those shown at the film and audio festival at the Fall Convention will receive an award for their selection.

Short Documentary

Non-fiction videos 2:30-7 minutes in length.

Long Documentary

Non-fiction video 7-15 minutes in length. May be edited to comply with length limits. 

Creative

Short films under 5 minutes in length. May be edited to comply with length limits. 

Video News Package

A short news package designed for broadcast or web distribution. Maximum length: 150 seconds.

Video Sports Package

A short sports package designed for broadcast or web distribution. Maximum length: 150 seconds. 

Video Feature Package

A short feature package designed for broadcast or web distribution. Maximum length: 150 seconds. 

Video Newscast 

Up to 30 minutes in length (one entry per college)

Animation (Under 5 minutes in length)

Creative, fictional animation. May be combined with real action. May be edited to comply with length limits. 

Audio Documentary 

Non-fictional audio story, expository in nature. (Please submit no more than 15 minutes for consideration by the judges.) May be edited to comply with length limits. 

Audio Creative Performance  

Creative audio performance intended to entertain. May include humor, fiction, promotional or musical audio performance. Up to 5 minutes in length. 

Best DJ Personality 

Audio performance as a DJ as aprt of an internet or broadcast radio show. Submit no more than 5 minutes of DJ work, and edit to omit songs. 


The Rules

Eligibility

All work must be completely produced by college students, and all entries must have been completed after Nov. 4, 2020. Attendance at the convention for other film festival entrants is encouraged but not required. Winners will be posted after the ceremony on Oct. 18, 2021.

Rules

All submissions will be ranked according to, but not limited to, the following guidelines: Presentation, technical proficiency of video and audio production, proper file submission, ethical considerations and deadline. All productions must be 100% original and 100% student produced.

Deadline

All submissions must be turned in by Monday, September 13 at noon ET. The winners will be announced and winning entries will be shown during the ACP/CMA Fall National College Media Convention. The specific date of the screening will be publicized later in the the summer. 

Submission Guidelines

All entries, must be accompanied by a $20 entry fee and turned in via Google Drive. 

  1. Use an existing Gmail account or set up a new one
  2. Create a folder with your name and entry type (ex: SmithLongDoc).
  3. Upload your file to the folder, also using that name format
  4. Send an invitation to share your folder with Paul Glover (pgloverhsu@gmail.com

All submissions must be

  • Smaller than 5 GB
  • File type .mov, .mp4 or .m4v
  • Audio entries should be .mp3

By uploading/submitting your files, you agree to the following:

  1. The video may be shown at the Film and Audio Festival Screening at the convention
  2. The video may be uploaded to the CMA film and audio festival website for others to see
  3. All the work was completed by students
  4. The video was completed between Nov. 4, 2020 and Sept 12, 2021.

Film and Audio Festival Screening

The winners will be announced and winning entries will be shown during the convention. The top winners in each category will be sent a plaque after the convention.

Each of the winning entries may be shown at the film and audio festival, though time restrictions may require that only excerpts of longer entries can be shown.

The judges will be professionals in the field. All awards are chosen at the discretion of the judges. Categories may be combined or expanded, if needed, and an entry may be moved into another category if it does not appear to fit the criteria for the original category.
