About the Tamar Engineering Project

In collaboration with industry partners, the University of Plymouth has established the Tamar Engineering Project to support engineering and engineering-related students through mentoring, financial assistance, and real-life experience in the workplace.

The project’s goal is to prepare a new generation of motivated, employable engineers with specialised knowledge, industry insights, and practical workplace skills. We recognise that students who demonstrate strong academic ability and determination may still face barriers to higher education due to personal or socioeconomic challenges.

The Tamar Engineering Project seeks to address these barriers by offering a bursary to talented students from diverse backgrounds, easing financial pressures and helping them pursue their career goals in engineering and engineering-related professions.

Applicants can apply to the Tamar Engineering Project before starting an approved engineering or engineering-related programme at the University of Plymouth. Successful candidates will receive £4,500 per year (excluding any placement years), including a £1,500 fee waiver.

Students will also participate in the Employer Mentoring Programme, where they are matched with an industry professional to develop essential workplace and personal skills. Selection for the Tamar Engineering Project will be based on the merits of this application.
