North Phoenix Prep Annual Classics Trip

Each Spring, the NPX classics department plans to hold a special school trip only for High School who choose the Classical Languages track. The purpose of the trip: to work on our spoken Latin skills, enrich our community, and, of course, visit the famous Getty Villa in Malibu, CA. The Getty Villa is a reconstruction of a gorgeous Roman villa from Pompeii which houses a large collection of Greek and Roman antiquities. It is a rare opportunity for Arizona Latin students to gain a first-hand experience of the material culture of Greece and Rome without actually visiting Greece or Italy.

2016 Getty Villa Trip

We are excited to work with you as we prepare for your Classics Trip to The Getty Villa in Malibu, CA. The estimated cost of this adventure will be $400. The cost of the trip will be divided into two payments due no later than the following dates:

January 29, 2016 - $200 (this non-refundable for booking flights)

March 18, 2016 - $200 (non-refundable balance due)

$400 - total cost includes including flight, hotel, charter bus to Getty Villa, airport shuttle, all breakfast, and 1 dinner at a resturant.

April 28, 2016 - $100 spending money is recommended

SCHEDULE

Thursday, APRIL 28th --> rather than attend school, we shall assemble at the PHX airport for a morning flight to LA, which arrives in the early afternoon; we then check into a hotel which is within walking distance of the Santa Monica pier; our first day will be spent at the beach engaging in various spoken-Latin activities

Friday, APRIL 29th (note: NPX has no school on this day) --> we shall take a chartered bus to the Getty Villa and spend the day at the museum; we shall take a guided tour of the museum, followed by lunch and a formal spoken-Latin activity in which students pick a famous piece of art or architecture and give a presentation (in Latin!)

Saturday, APRIL 30th --> promptly check out of the hotel and catch an early afternoon return flight to Phoenix
