Program Overview
Diamond In The Rough is excited to be hosting our Diamond in the Rough Diamond University Summer Leadership Academy on the Emory Campus (Clifton Road). This opportunity is open to rising 7th – 12th grade girls. This summer intensive will include an exciting, power-packed week designed to equip and empower middle & high school girls and help them gain clarity, build confidence, and courageously chart a personal path to success. The week will incorporate special guest presenters, small group workshops, panel discussions, team-building activities, reflective exercises, resources, and more! We desire that this opportunity will engage and encourage the girls to establish clarity and confidence in their personal and professional aspirations.
The week-long intensive will provide:
- Participate in interactive workshops under the guidance of professionals & DITR team
- Conduct an individual academic audit and personal assessment
- Gain exposure and receive assistance with determining goals and a personal development plan
- Gain insight and guidance from professionals to reinforce the post-graduation plan
- Students are required to bring lunch daily (there are no refrigerators or microwaves available)
- TRANSPORTATION WILL NOT BE PROVIDED
This opportunity is on a first come first serve basis.
Dates & Hours of Operation
The Leadership Academy will be hosted Monday, July 12th - Friday, July 19th on the campus of Emory University, 201 Dowman Drive, Atlanta, GA 30322. Camp hours are 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. However, before-care is available between the hours of 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. for $10.00/day per child as well as after-care is 4:15 pm - 6:00 p.m. for an additional $10.00/day per child. Before and aftercare must be arranged and paid prior.
Requirements
Applicants will be selected by a review committee which will make decisions based on a point basis for the following requirements:
- Must be a rising 7th – 12th grader
- A completed application
- Parent Orientation (virtual)
- A completed Youth Questionnaire online
- Participation in a pre & post survey
Summer Academy Cost
The cost for this Academy is $299.00 with a $100 non-refundable deposit required to secure your slot. The balance can be paid at the time of registration or can be invoiced but paid in full by July 1st.
There is a $50 OFF EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT for participants who register by June 15th.
Costs include but are not limited to the following:
- T-shirt & Bag
- Lanyard
- Program supplies (College Planner binder, pencils, materials)
- Insurance
- Daily Snacks
Registration Deadline is July 1st.
Dress Code
Academy participants are required to wear provided t-shirts and lanyards daily. One shirt will be provided with registration. Additional shirts are available for an additional cost. Academy participants are required to wear modest apparel. Walking shorts, khakis or blue jeans are allowed. Participants are asked to wear comfortable shoes and socks or sandals. No flip flops, short-shorts, bare mid-drifts, low-neck revealing tops, or clothing exposing the stomach area. If a participant comes improperly dressed, a verbal warning will be given for the first offense. If there is a second offense, the parent will be asked to pick up the student.
