This application is for Project Kindle 2024.
Project Kindle seeks highly motivated teachers who want to bring their students on Earthwatch-led scientific field research expeditions and provides those teachers with the resources to make that vision a reality. We encourage teachers both with and without past experience leading student travel programs to apply.
Project Kindle teachers will participate on an Earthwatch expedition with the support of likeminded teachers and develop a realistic plan for leading a student group expedition. Earthwatch expeditions are led by world-class scientists who both train participants on data collection methods and give research lectures to prepare for hands-on experience collecting research data. Project Kindle also prepares its participants for organizing student group travel by means of training sessions and seminars that share the best practices for recruiting students, communicating with parents/gaurdians, and securing funding. We expect participants to foster an atmosphere of teamwork, friendship, and support among their cohort of Project Kindle teachers, who come from a wide range of schools. You can find more information at earthwatch.org/projectkindle.
In order to be eligible you must teach at a high school in the United States.
Selected fellows will take part in an Earthwatch expedition with a team of 8–12 high school teachers, a Project Kindle Alumni Facilitator, an Earthwatch Staff Facilitator, and our Earthwatch School Group Expedition Advisor on Wildlife and Reforestation in Brazil from July 1–7, 2024.
When the time comes for fellows to begin planning for their own student groups, fellows may consider both domestic and international expeditions.
Applications accepted on a rolling basis. Decisions will be made by April 30, 2024.
